Mounting a TV on the wall can give your living space a clean, modern look while freeing up valuable floor space. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to mount your TV:
What Tools and Materials Do I Need ?
- TV mount kit (appropriate for your TV size and weight)
- Stud finder/Stud Buddy- (I like the stud Buddy)
- Tape measure
- Level
- Drill and drill bits
- Screwdriver
- Pencil or marker
- Socket wrench
- Screws and anchors (typically included in the mount kit)
- Safety goggles (For the blog-fine :(- I am not using them)
- Helper ?
Steps:
1. Choose the Mount and Location:
Select the Right Mount: Ensure the mount is compatible with your TV’s size and weight. Mounts come in different styles: fixed, tilting, and full-motion.
Decide the Location: Choose a spot that provides a good viewing angle and is near power outlets and cable connections.
2. Find the Studs:
Use a Stud Finder: Locate the studs in the wall where you plan to mount the TV. Mark the edges of each stud with a pencil.
Verify Studs: To ensure you’re marking the center of the stud, tap the wall with a hammer and listen for a solid sound. Alternatively, drill a small hole to check.
3. Attach the Mounting Bracket to the TV:
Position the Bracket: Place the mounting bracket on the back of the TV, aligning it with the VESA mounting holes.
Secure the Bracket: Use the provided screws to attach the bracket to the TV. Do not overtighten.
4. Mark the Wall:
Measure and Mark: Use the mount as a template to mark where the screws will go. Ensure these marks align with the studs.
Level the Mount: Use a level to make sure the mount is straight before drilling.
5. Drill Pilot Holes:
Drill Holes: Using the appropriate drill bit, drill pilot holes at the marked locations. Make sure the holes are deep enough for the screws.
6. Attach the Wall Plate:
Position the Wall Plate: Align the wall plate with the pilot holes.
Secure the Wall Plate: Use lag bolts or screws provided with the mount kit to attach the plate to the wall. Tighten with a socket wrench. Ensure it is firmly attached and level.
7. Mount the TV:
Attach the TV to the Wall Plate: This step may vary depending on the mount type. Usually, you need to lift the TV and hook it onto the wall plate. This is easier with a helper.
Secure the TV: Ensure the TV is securely attached to the wall plate according to the mount instructions. Some mounts have locking mechanisms or additional screws for added security.
8. Connect Cables:
Connect Power and Cables: Attach all necessary cables (power, HDMI, etc.) to the back of the TV.
Manage Cables: Use cable ties or a cable management system to keep the cables tidy and out of sight.
9. Final Adjustments:
Check the Position: Ensure the TV is level and positioned correctly.
Test the TV: Turn on the TV to make sure it works and the cables are connected properly.
Tips:
Safety First: Always wear safety goggles when drilling.
Use a Helper: Mounting a TV can be challenging alone; having a helper can make the process smoother and safer.
Follow Instructions:

Always refer to the TV mount manual for specific instructions related to your model.
By following these steps, you can successfully mount your TV and enjoy a better viewing experience. If you're unsure at any point, consider hiring a professional to assist with the installation.
